EKFE 5x7

Well, where do I start? This one took a bit of thinking and working. I first tried using HC110 but the shadow detail was just horrible so changed dilution but still no dice, so after a few test I decided not to waste any more film and use a different developer. I ended up using Rodinal and that seem to be the ticket.

I ended up with a 1:50 dilution of Rodinal, but I learned a very important thing, and that is I need at least .7 ml of solution for every 20 sq in (1 4x5 sheet) of film. To play it safe though, I will use at least 1 ml or very close to it.

For 5x7 I will use the following dilutions with Rodinal;
# Sheets Water ML Chem. ML Chem. Per Sheet
1          220        4.3  (4)       4
2          220        4.2  (4)       2.15
3          300        5.8  (6)       1.96
4          400        7.8  (8)       1.96
5          500        9.8 (10)       1.96
6          510        10  (10)       1.67
I am not sure if I can use the expert drum with 6 - 5x7 sheets, as I don't know if there is enough developer to be able to give the proper results. So I will not risk it and just use 5 sheets max with the drum. Better to be safe than sorry.

After much testing I finally nailed the film down and to my surprise the EI is only 40. I was really hoping it would have been a faster film.

Developing time was 9 min 45 sec in Rodinal 1:50 at 20C with a 5 minute water pre rinse and a 1 minutes water stop bath in a Jobo with lift using a Expert Drum.

Zone 1 reading; .11, just perfect.
Zone 8 reading; 1.2, and I am in heaven.

I will get my N-1, N+1 and N+2 dialed in later as it took me forever to get this dialed in just for N.

Conclusion;

Efke 100 rated at 40
Rodinal 1:50; 9 min 45 sec; 20C; 5 min prewash; 1 min water stop bath
